Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Abroad has condemned the European Union’s decision to intervene in the conflict that arose between Morocco and Spain.
1-The Moroccan ministry considers the decision of the EU Parliament passed today, Friday, couldn’t change the nature of the bilateral conflict between Morocco and Spain.
2- The attempt to Europeanize this conflict is of no use and doesn’t form the bilateral nature of this conflict, its historical roots, and Spain’s responsibility.
3-Employing the European Parliament in this conflict brings adverse results away from participating in finding solutions thus this act is a part of the short-sighted escalation.
This maneuver that aims at surpassing debate on the hidden reasons of the conflict can’t deceive anybody.
4- The decision doesn’t accord with ideal cooperation between Morocco and the European Union in the field of immigration.
Those who criticize Morocco in this field, are those who are benefiting from the daily results of this cooperation.
5- In reality, no one in Europe can doubt the quality of cooperation between Morocco and the EU in all fields including immigration.
Numbers at hand confirm that since 2017, the cooperation in immigration enabled in thwarting 14 thousand attempts of illegal immigration and dismantling of five thousand networks of trafficking and rescuing 80,500 immigrants at sea, and preventing countless attempts of abuse.
Moreover, Morocco needs no guarantees in handling immigration like the method of teacher which pupil is no longer useful as the method of mentoring was surpassed and the logic of carrot and stick doesn’t present an incentive to this but convince the joint responsibility.
7- The decision of the EU Parliament contradicts the spirit of the partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the EU which attempts to hinder the kingdom while the principle of partnership in reality weakens.
8- As Morocco feels satisfaction at relations with the EU, it sees the conflict with Spain is still in place as its reasons being not solved.
9-Morocco did not judge the partnership with the EU on basis of short-range events but the basis of long-range events.
10- In addition to all that, the stance of the member-states in the EU was constructive regarding the main role of Morocco in the Euro-Mediterranean and the positive evaluation for cooperation in the field of immigration.
In the same context, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said during news held today, Friday, following his talks with Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush, like the following:
– The decision of the EU Parliament that voted in today came in the context of exploiting the council in handling a theme that doesn’t fall within its jurisprudence.
– The EU Parliament’s decision related to a United Nations agreement. The Moroccan FM enquires: Who gives the EU Parliament the right to monitor the implementation of the UN agreements?
Since when the EU Parliament becomes a guardian of implementing the UN agreements.
-The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) affirms today, Friday, Morocco’s adherence to the Convention on the Rights of the Child but the EU Parliament could be busy with another area in the world where this convention did not being respected.
The decision made by the EU Parliament contradicts Morocco’s record in fighting the
Illegal immigration despite the conflict is bilateral between Morocco and Spain and it will be standing whenever its reasons exist.
On the backdrop of the EU Parliament’s decision, Morocco has got the support of the following parties:
